GIRLS ARE INTO THE FINAL!!

The Year 6 girl’s football team took part in Challenge Cup on Wednesday 15th March. The girls played really well all evening and managed to win all of their group games to set them up for an exciting Semi-Final. First up they played Greenfields and won 1-0 thanks to a Kaitlin goal. HJS created many chances in the game including a fantastic strike from Ellie that smashed against the bar. In the second game against Mount Pleasant the girls dominated again this time scoring two goals the first from Kaitlin then a well worked team goal that Ellie finished off. Next up were St Winifrides again the girls had most of the chances but were only able to convert them into one goal Kaitlin again the scorer. The final group game was against Oxon HJS managed another 1-0 win thanks to another Kaitlin goal. So HJS were into the Semi-Final where they played a good St Giles side. The game was very tight with St Giles having the early chances but Yasmin, in goal, held firm. Then after a HJS corner the ball came back out to Kiera who struck a neat volley to lob the keeper to make it 1-0 to HJS. The girls then had a couple of chances to score a second but were also relieved to hear the full time whistle. The girls had made it into the final for a second year running!!

Well done girls and good luck in the final!!

The boys did fantastically well and managed to book their place in the final, which will take place at The Greenhous Meadow on 6th May. It was an eventful evening with no goals scored in the group games then two penalty shoot outs followed, with Sam H proving to be the difference in both to set up an exciting Semi-Final against Mount Pleasant. The boys again defended well and managed 0-0 in normal time. The tense match went into extra time with HJS scoring the all important goal minutes from time. A great run from Noah P set up Callum B to score Harlescott’s first goal of the night!

Quicksticks Hockey Tournament

Mrs Owen and Mr Cohen took an A and B team to compete in the Quicksticks Hockey Tournament on an extremely cold Thursday 9th February at the Meole Brace Secondary School. Both teams did very well with the A team gaining 3rd place in the A team competition and the B coming 5th in the B team competition. The A team started off well beating Greenacres 8-0 but then played the best team and eventual winners in the competition, Meole Brace, and lost 9-0. Next up was Greenfields with another positive 8-0 scoreline before drawing 3-3 with St Giles and beating St Georges 5-4 after being 5-0 up! These great results meant HJS came runners up in their group and played Radbrook in the play-off for 3rd place. In a very tense and close game HJS came out victors with a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Jay. The whole team were fantastic especially considering they had only one practise before playing. All the players managed to score at least one goal each during the competition with Jay HJS’ top scorer.

The B team also had a great competition they started out against a good Longden team and lost 4-0 before playing Coleham and winning 2-0. They then played two playoff games they won the first 3-0 but unfortunately lost the second to St Georges. Again the whole team were great and with Jacob B top scorer for the B team.

Boys U9 County Cup

The Year 4 boys team took part in the 2nd round of the County Cup on Wednesday 1st February at the Sports Village. The boys did extremely well. They beat Newtown 1-0, with a goal from Taylor, in the first game and then a header from Cameron was enough to beat Greenfields by thr same scoreline in the next game. They went into the last game knowing they would reach the semi final with a result against St Peters and they did just that winning 2-0 with two more goals from Taylor. So they went into the semi final full of confidence and played very well, dominating large parts of the game . But unfortunately it was Oakmeadow who got the all important goal and sneaked through to the final 1-0.

The boys were fantastic throughout and it all looks good for next year.
